WinRAR is a powerful archive manager. It can backup and compress your data into RAR or ZIP files.
WinRAR can encrypt files with a password you give. You can specify whether file names are hidden. Means, the name of compressed files can only be viewed with the password.

It provides facility for creating archives that span multiple volumes ( RAR files ).

Self-Extracting (SFX) files are EXE files that can be created from a winrar file. It doesn't require winrar program to be installed on a computer where the file will be extracted. We can specify options to run a particular program after extraction. This can be very useful for software installations, where the whole software installation can be compressed into a winrar SFX file and easiely distributed over internet.

You can also automate with WinRAR's powerful command-line parameters, which let you create Windows shortcuts and old-fashioned DOS-style batch files to do particular jobs.

RAR files can normally compress files up to 10 percent more than ZIP files. WinRAR provides complete support of RAR and ZIP files, and unpacks 7Z, ACE, ARJ, BZ2, CAB, GZ, UUE , ISO, JAR, LZH, TAR, Z, etc.
